es ist wieder einmal an der Zeit, Sie über Neuigkeiten am Institut für Sozialstrategie zu unterrichten. Insbesondere möchten wir Sie diesmal auf den neuen IfS-Blog und die aktuelle Buchveröffentlichung von Prof. Hemel aufmerksam machen.
IfS-BLOG: Die globale Zivilgesellschaft gestalten!
Getreu dem Motto unseres Instituts haben wir eine interaktive Website entwickelt, um mit Ihnen gemeinsam die Gestaltung die globalen Zivilgesellschaft voranzutreiben. Regelmäßig wollen wir eigene und externe Beiträge und Ideen veröffentlichen und zur Diskussion stellen. Wir laden Sie ganz herzlich ein, den Blog zu besuchen und mitzuwirken, sei es in Form von Kommentaren oder auch eigenen Beiträgen.

Bankenkrise, Rettungsschirme und Managergehälter sind in den Medien allgegenwärtig. Die Begriffe »Wirtschaft« und »Kapital« beeinflussen heute so gut wie alle Lebensbereiche – und das, obwohl sie in krisenhaften Zeiten wie diesen nahezu unter Generalverdacht stehen. Doch ist Kapital nicht an sich schlecht. Die Menschen sind es, die gut oder schlecht mit ihm umgehen.
Ulrich Hemel fragt nach dem Sinn all dieser Begriffe und erläutert ihre Bedeutung. Der erfolgreiche Unternehmer und Theologe macht überzeugend klar, wie menschenwürdiges Wirtschaften möglich ist und welche Rolle und Verantwortung
der Religion zukommen sollte. Nach dem Siegeszug und dem darauf folgenden vorläufigen Scheitern des Turbokapitalismus ist dieses Buch nötiger denn je.
Wirtschaftliche Tätigkeiten beschränken sich nicht auf den Austausch von Geld gegen Güter. Doch wenn Geld ins Spiel kommt, geht es immer wieder um den “Tausch von Geld gegen Träume”. Wir verbinden Erwartungen und Phantasien mit jedem Kaufakt. Damit findet Wirtschaft grundsätzlich im sozialen Raum statt und muss von Spielregeln geleitet werden, die politisch zu diskutieren sind. Denn gerade in der globalen Zivilgesellschaft geht es um menschenwürdiges Wirtschaften, um Spielregeln, die sowohl der Schöpferkraft wie auch der Verletzlichkeit des Menschen Rechnung tragen

Paul-Nordhues-Caritaspreis 2013 geht an Thomas Suermann de Nocker
Nicht zuletzt freuen wir uns Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass unser Mitarbeiter Thomas Suermann de Nocker den Paul-Nordhues-Caritaspreis 2013 der theologischen Fakultät Paderborn zugesprochen bekommen hat. Thema der Ausschreibung war: „Der Wert des Wertlosen. Diakonisches Handeln jenseits der Logik des Geldes.“

Flüchtlingsandrang aus Syrien, Sinti und Roma in der Dortmunder Nordstadt, Fachkräftemangel in ganz Deutschland, „Brain Drain“: Meldungen zum Thema Migrations- und Asylpolitik häufen sich. Gemeinsam ist Ihnen eines: Probleme werden grundsätzlich auf nationaler oder gar regionaler Ebene betrachtet, wobei der Kontext der Migrationsströme zumeist übersehen wird. Deshalb hat das Institut für Sozialstrategie das Konzept einer globalen Migrationsbehörde als Lösungsansatz im Sinne internationaler Kooperation entwickelt.

According to the IfS Slogan we have developed an interactive website in order to foster the constitution of the Global Civil Society in cooperation with you. We will continuously publish our own and extern thoughts and ideas and put them up for discussion. Already, we are looking forward to your visits, comments and contributions! (So far, the blog is written in German, but we are also open to English contributions!)

Banking crisis, bailout funds and manager salaries are of pervasive presence in the media. The terms “economy” and “capital” influence nearly all areas of living – even though they are under general suspicion in those times of crisis. But capital itself is not a bad thing. It is the people who handle it well or bad.
Ulrich Hemel investigates and clarifies the meaning of all those terms. The successful entrepreneur and theologian explains compellingly how it is possible to make business in a way that respects human dignity and which role and responsibility applies to religion. This book is more necessary than ever after the triumphal procession and apparent failure of turbo capitalism.
Economic activity is not restricted to the exchange of money against goods. But if money comes into play, we often talk about the “exchange of money against dreams”. We attach expectations and phantasies to any act of purchase. Hence, economy always takes place in a social context. It has to be guided by its rules of the game which are to be discussed politically. Global civil society aims at an economy based on human dignity, at rules of the game which respect the creativity as well as the vulnerability of human kind.

Paul Nordhues Caritas Price 2013 Goes to Thomas Suermann de Nocker
We are happy to inform you that our colleague Thomas Suermann de Nocker was awarded with the Paul Nordhues Caritas Price 2013 of the theological faculty in Paderborn, Germany. The topic of the call was “The value of the valueless. Diaconic activity apart from the logic of money.”

Refugees from Syria, Sinti and Romanies in Europe’s inner cities, deficit of skilled employees in Germany, “brain drain”: News about politics of migration and political asylum are becoming more and more frequent in the media. They have one thing in common: problems are basically regarded from a national or regional perspective whereas the context of migration movements is generally overseen. Thus, the Institute of Social Strategy has developed the concept of a global migration authority as a possible solution in the sense of international cooperation.
